Netherlands to host World Halal Forum in October

THE World Halal Forum (WHF) is heading for the Netherlands in October this year, the first time it will be held outside Malaysia.

Announcing this in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, KasehDia Sdn Bhd founder and managing director Jumaatun Azmi said the WHF in Netherlands will be held for two days from October 27.

In a statement, she said WHF 2009 in Kuala Lumpur saw overwhelming demand and subsequent agreement with partners to hold the forum in different regions around the world.

Held in Kuala Lumpur last May, the event attracted over 908 participants from 47 countries, with the attendance of 52 local and international media.

According to the statement, the halal sector maintains a 16 per cent share of the global food market, earning an annual US$634 billion in serving the 1.6 billion worldwide Muslim population. Europe accounts for
US$66.6 billion of the halal food market.

The fifth consecutive WHF in 2010 will be held in Kuala Lumpur on May 11 and 12 next year, where issues pertinent to trade and market access are likely to dominate discussions at the forum.
