Questions & Answers

“A person after travelling a long distance, with dispersed hairs and covered with dust, raises his hands for the prayer and says O Allah!, O Allah! But his food is Haram, his drink is Haram and his dress is Haram. So how can his prayer be accepted by Allah?” (Mishkat Sharif)

Just wanted to know whether trading in Hair products/hair manufacturers is halal or haram.

"I Begin In The Name Of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Compassionate"

Assalamu Alaykum,

If the product(s) in question relate to things such as shampoo or oils, things that are used by all on an everyday basis to keep the hair and scalp clean; this is seen as ok.

However, from our understanding of the question, you are (please forgive us if we are mistaken) refering to products such as dye, colour and fake hair. Our stance is that the parts of the body hold the same sanctity as all of the body. In the same way it is forbidden to desecrecate the entire body, it is also forbidden to do anything that does not agree with the Hurma of humans. This is the reason we are instructed to dispose of our hairs and nails in a respectful manner and not to discard it like conventional waste. On this basis, we cannot see the justification for indulging in hair for commercial gain....

We hope this information is helpful.

May Allah Guide Us On The Right Path and Give Us The Knowledge To Nourish Our Bodies With Halal products.

Ameen.
